How The Junk Art Workshop Started
The term "Junk Art" came to me from Pavitra Crimmel of Recycletown at the Main Landfill of Sonoma County. We use that term to educate the public about how valuable discards and junk really are. There are so many shapes and materials to use. The age adds beauty and wisdom to the sculpture.
In the late 70's and early 80's due to a lack of art education funding in our schools I began to provide art enrichment for my family. Being of modest means, I used household junk (ready-made discards), lumber and found objects to construct sculptures.
The Process
We gather materials and wait for them to tell us what they want to be, letting creativity to be our guide. "We create with what's at hand."
The Junk Art Workshop encourages and honors the individual's creative spirit
Children and adults use found objects, wood, hammers, nails, glue, paint, wire, recycled materials to create sculptures.
Parents are encouraged to attend the workshop and help their children by joining in the fun and building their own sculptures.
Bring recycled materials and treasures to the workshop to add to the total experience.
Please no glass or sharp objects.Wear clothes that are appropriate for painting and working on the floor.
Come join the fun assembling creative sculptures.
Out of chaos emerges the gift of creativity. Then we begin to build. Everyone who is open to this experience will leave with the possibilities of Art.
